Making news headlines in the international press at the moment is the threat of new strains of 'bird flu' or avian influenza.
Bird flu is an infection caused by avian influenza viruses or a subtype of Influenza A virus.
These flu viruses occur naturally among birds worldwide and especially wild birds that carry the viruses in their intestines. These wild birds usually do not get sick from the virus.
However, bird flu is very contagious amongst birds and can make some domesticated birds, including chickens, ducks, and turkeys very sick and kill them.
Bird flu in humans?
This virus does not commonly infect humans but infections have been recorded in the last 100 years.
The latest update is that since 1997 more than 100 confirmed cases of humans infected with bird flu have occurred.
What to do!?
NOTHING new in particular that you wouldn't have done to protect yourself from the other forms of flu people usually get in winter! The avian flu is also a virus and our bodies are masterful virus-killers, if we give them a fighting chance.
Virus destruction step 1:
Give your body what it needs to be a masterful virus/bacteria/fungus/parasite-killer by eating 5-9 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables daily.
Drink 6-8 glasses of clean water every day and make sure you avoid the things that inhibit your virus-killing abilities like refined flour products, refined sugars, bovine dairy products and foods cooked in weak oils like soya, cottonseed or sunflower oil.
Virus destruction step 2:
Make sure to support your body with extra supplemental nutrients on a daily basis.
1) Daily multivitamin
2) Daily vitamin C
3) Daily salmon oil or linseed oil.

Virus destruction step 3:
Have natural infection fighting supplements close at hand for when you feel an infection coming.

Don't hesitate to visit your doctor if you feel whatever is bugging you is getting out of hand.
